Insomnia is a interactive e-textile prototype for an artwork in the form of a sensory reaction pillow made from recycled fabric.
The project is strongly inspired by the themes of anxiety and depression, which cause the affected person's mind to be constantly, and often unconsciously, mentally engaged and never able to fully rest.
Drawn from personal experience, one effective way to counteract this problem is the use of white noise as a calming and soothing agent. The patches embroidered with conductive thread on the pillow are capacitive sensors, which can record the pressure applied on each point. This value triggers the volume parameter on two speakers located inside the pillowcase, activating and shifting sounds depending on the user's interaction with them.
